The Hayne-Webster Debate
Who: Senator Robert Hayne of South Carolina and Senator Daniel Webster of Massachusetts
What: Both Hayne and Webster had debated over the state's rights.
When: In 1830
Where: Congress/Senate
Why:The Southern States did not agree with the law that the other states decided to pass that no one will be able to buy any British goods because there was total loss and the Southern States couldn't buy the goods because they were cheap and that's when the debate occured.
Summary
The Hayne-Webster Debate was a famouse historical event in the history of the US Senate. This debate was argued by Robert Hayne and Daniel Webster both Senators of Massachusetts and South Carolina. This was an arguement between nullification with the federal government and the states. Hayne sided with the state government and Webster sided with the Federal government. It would be a fair way to go against government if the states were given the power to do that this is what Hayne believed. Webster believed that the states should be unified, however thery should not have power to change the law.
